Andrew started competitive sailing at the age of 9, racing Toppers in his native Northern Ireland. By the age of 13, he was selected to be part of the RYA Northern Ireland Youth Squad in Toppers, and two years later in the Laser Youth Squad. After winning the Northern Ireland youth National Championship, he would represent Ireland in the Laser Europeans and World Championship.

In 2014, Andrew moved to Cowes after being selected as part of the British Keelboat Academy, and would end up winning the IRC National Championship.

His big break came when he got accepted into the Artemis Offshore Academy to be part of the 2015 squad. After training in Lorient, Baker took part in his first Solitaire – Bompard Le Figaro, finishing the race at the 32nd place.

Andrew is now in his second full season on the Figaro circuit, after a hiatus in February to compete in Sailing Arabia the Tour on Team Averda (with former Artemis Offshore sailors Rob Bunce and Rich Mason), finishing 3rd overall, after winning the first leg.

In his first solo race of 2016, he raced the Solo Concarneau with Artemis coach Nicolas Jossier and finished 8th. Andrew then ranked 11th of the Solo Maitre Coq, and 13th of the Solo Normandie.

In his second Solitaire Andrew - now racing on #SeaChange - finished 26th, his best result so far in this race.
